ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Joy!
Music has been a part of my life for over 25 years, and one of my greatest joys is sharing that passion with others. I love watching students discover their creativity, build confidence, and experience the excitement of mastering something they once thought was impossible.

I believe piano lessons are about much more than learning notes and technique. Learning an instrument helps develop focus, discipline, problem-solving skills, patience, and perseverance, while also providing a healthy outlet for creativity and emotional expression. Every student learns differently, so I strive to create lessons that are engaging, encouraging, and tailored to each individual's goals, interests, and learning style. Whether you're taking your very first lesson or looking to refine your skills, I'm committed to helping you grow at your own pace in a supportive environment.

I hold a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria (2019) and a Master of Music from the University of Toronto (2021). Throughout my studies, I had the privilege of learning from distinguished teachers including Kum Sing Lee, May Ling Kwok, and Edward Parker. I have represented B.C. at the Provincial Music Festival on multiple occasions and have extensive experience as a solo pianist, chamber musician, accompanist, and church organist. While my formal training is rooted in classical music, I enjoy exploring a wide variety of musical styles and helping students discover the music they love.
In addition to teaching piano, I am a board-certified neurologic music therapist. This specialized training gives me a deeper understanding of how people learn and allows me to adapt my teaching to meet each student's unique strengths, needs, and learning style.
Outside the studio, I enjoy hiking, getting lost in a good book, and spending time in nature. One of my favourite parts of the day is feeding the chickadees that visit my backyard!
